Hynix, Numonyx Form Strategic Alliance for NAND Flash Memory
August 08, 2008
Korea-based memory chip maker Hynix and Switzerland-based non-volatile memory chip maker Numonyx, a joint venture formed in March 2008 between STMicroelectronics and Intel, recently announced that they have signed a five-year cooperation agreement to jointly develop NAND flash memory products and solutions, leveraging on both parties' proprietary technologies, the Korea Times reported on August 7.

Through the tie-up, Hynix expects to access non-memory technologies owned by Intel to further improve its NAND-related applications, such as next-generation storage device SSD (Solid State Drive), while Numonyx aims to catch up with competitors Samsung and Toshiba in the field of non-volatile memory chips production.
